Airsoft Island Get-Away Mrčara

OptimusPrime

When you're driving up and down the country trying out all those skirmish sites, sometimes it also dawns on you if you can play at some exotic place far from the usual sceneries you are used to. For me, it's always like that, and I often try to make it a point to get away and play airsoft at another place, far, far away. You can call me airsoft tourist if you want, and I won't take it as an offence.

I came across an invitation at Facebook, however it was in Croation. Thankfully, there's always the Google language tool which allow you to translate in over a million languages (now I'm exaggerating), and it covers Croatian, so off I fed the invitation into the translation box:

OPERATION: RED DAWN-REDEMPTION (OPERACIJA: " CRVENA ZORA-ISKUPLJENJE")

"One of the world's most dangerous terrorists, Muhammad al Abin put a nuclear device at the center of Brussels with the aim to destroy the central headquarters of NATO and the EU, setting an ultimatum that NATO forces must begin to withdraw from Afghanistan, the deadline is Saturday, 07.03.2010. at 12:00 AM .. and intelligence, while NATO's frantically searching for the location of nuclear devices at the same time they received information about a secret refuge Muhammad al Abina and his troops on a small island in the Adriatic Sea Mrčara .. not leaving anything to chance, immediately sent his najelitniju tactical units in order to capture alive or dead Muhammad al Abina and find the remote control device that will deactivate a nuclear bomb .. time inexorably leaking .. only 6 hours left until detonation."

Date: Saturday, July 3, 2010
Time: 6:00am - 12:00pm
Location: Island Mrcara

Organised by: Adriatic Airsoft - Alfa

Island Mrčara, according to Wikipedia is a small uninhabited in the Croation Part of the Adriatic Sea. Though it wasn't totally uninhabited all the time. As Adriatic Airsoft - Alfa say that it was under the control of the former Yugoslavian Navy until 1979:

"The Navy left behind a number of military facilities after it’s departure, both ground and underground: the barracks, machine gun and sniper nests, ground and underground bunkers with an abundance labyrinths, tunnels, rooms and exits to the surface. All these objects, embedded in the environment of the Mediterranean climate, pine forests and low vegetation with meadows and rocky terrain make it possible to create a unique and unrepeatable airsoft environment. The island occupies an area of about 3Ha which leaves enough space to host fights with larger audience (300-400 people)."

Now that sounds like a good airsoft adventure to me, playing airsoft in the middle of the Adriatic Sea, on an island which has been abandoned, with infrastructure for a great airsoft firefight (and perhaps for other tourism purposes). Unfortunately, I have some pending schedules that won't allow me to join this upcoming airsoft event.

But I'll keep Mrčara in the back of my mind which I hope remains an airsoft adventure site when I get the time and budget to visit this island. Who would like to join me when the chance comes?
