Just recently having surpassed its Kickstarter funding goals, this new project, Tek Recon, which is a more high-tech version of Nerf guns as it also has an app that they bill as "Real Life Online Gaming" aims to combine online FPS gaming with real world shooting games that happens in Nerf, Paintball and Aisoft. Airsoft players might be turned off by the Tek Recon guns, but what the Airsoft Community can look into into are the additional features that were built by the Tek Recon team that can be used by Airsoft players who are into FPS games such as Call of Duty and Battlefield.

The inspiration of Recon Tek is basically online FPS gaming and they want to bring this online gaming experience to the real world. So you get some of the cool features of FPS gaming such as the HUD and Social Media and merged with real-world shooting games. Rather than rely on commercially available guns played by people from all walks of life, they developed their own "Blasters" to go with the app. With this, we think the primary victim (or "competition" if you want to put it that way) are the Nerf guns. The difference here is the ammo, which look similar to rubber bands and are loaded into the gun via magazine.

Perhaps most of our readers will not be interested in the Recon Tek Blasters since they prefer the realistic looking ones, which airsoft is in the first place so let's check what really interests us most: the App. This means that Recon Tek will require players to have smartphones which are mounted on the Blasters (there are already existing mounts for smartphones that can be used on firearms and airsoft guns such as Inteliscope and we're sure there are more being developed for rail systems). The app has the following features and more according to the developers:

• Create your own Profile by selecting a Username and Avatar.
• Armory to control and create game loadouts, including your blaster, scope, sound effect, and in-game powerups.
• Familiar multiplayer game modes including Isolation (every man for himself), Team Supremacy (team battle), and Capture the Flag (with flags you scan when captured).
• Radar which reveals teammates, as well as opponents.
• In game features such as live chat, on screen ammo counter, simple swipe vision modes (Classic, Night Vision, Heat Seeker, X Ray), quick tap zoom + many more.

I don't know if the existing Recon Tek App can be readily used for airsoft games, especially for indoor types. Just imagine if you can project the App to Ballistic  Glasses with a HUD such as the Recon Jet, then it further enhances its high tech value for airsoft games.

We don’t know if there are airsoft players with software gaming development experience would like to take a shot in developing something like this and can be made available for smartphones running Android, iOS and Windows.
