Check this AEG if it is a faithful reproduction of the COLT M16A1VN that ASTKilo23 reviews and is available at Evike.com... "EMG Helios Colt Licensed M16A1I picked up one of these from Evike the morning they were made available. I had been waiting for a Colt licensed M16A1 to hit the US market, and one finally did. However, I have some serious criticisms of this gun. Overall, I like it, but it needs a second pass as far as design choices. It's good, but could be much better."
Andrew's Field Gear and Uniforms is not happy with the inaccuracy of M16A1VN AEGs so decided to put up a video on how to modify one for it to be accurate in detail... "I will go over the inaccuracies of many M16A1 airsoft guns and how to fix them. This particular example is the JG model. If you can find one, buy the G&P, very little work needs to be done. The same steps can be applied to the G&G and Classic Army AEGs as well."
Whilst the controversy about airsoft is about the issue that it can be converted to shoot real bullets, Real Fake Guns goes the other way. In this video which is shot with a vintage effect, they show how to make a real steel M16A1 shoot airsoft BBs instead which is less controversial though it might shock real steel owners. This is a converted Colt M16A1 turned into a Gas Blowback rifle.

But in terms of lethality will both be the same or will one be better to use in a firefight? Garand Thumb compares the two in this video.

Marck writes about putting together an M16A1VN AEG in this RedWolf Airsoft Blog... "I am going to come out and make a confession. I am a closeted retro and classic rifle fan. Guns like the retro M16s, M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, and so on and so forth I find incredibly cool and appeals to a deep (ok maybe not too deep) hidden firearms hipster inside of me. So today I am going to put out a retro gun build of the XM16E1 based off of the TM M16VN.
