Beta Project AN/PEQ15 Battery Box

Dom

The PEQ15 which is an ATPIAL (Advanced Target Pointer Illuminator Aiming Light), replaced older models like PEQ2 and PAQ4 in the US military. 50% smaller and lighter than the previous versions, it quickly became a success just like in the world of airsoft where Lithium based batteries require less room inside an AEG so people started to look for solutions like this. Plus, the device will give your gun a "high tech" look. People think that the M4 is not an M4 until you put this aiming device in front of the holosight replica.

Airsoft Buddy made me an offer I couldn't refuse: discount on an already cheap accessory. Don't tell this to a geardo like myself. The list price at Airsoft Buddy is $22 which is a lot better option than a battery duct-taped to the fore arm grip (I didn't say cheaper). It is an ideal housing for 11V 1300mAh lithium batteries and several manufacturers are offering batteries especially made for this box.

The battery cable can go out on the back of the unit after you remove a rubber plug and the back plate. Removing the front plate will let you access the "laser" circuit. This "laser" is more for show than anything else. It cannot be adjusted to help aiming but it will look awesome when you shoot your next airsoft video. I wouldn't use laser during a game anyways because I care about the safety of my fellow airsoft players. With the appearance of the PEQ15, eye injuries multiplied in the US military and some of those injuries were permanent eye sight loss due to the improper use of green laser. The only thing could protect you is the LPS lens from ESS but that only filters out specific wavelengths so everyone on the field must use the same device plus it's only available for military and law enforcement agencies only.

The Beta Project AN/PEQ15 is available in tan and black colors. I picked the black because most of my AEGs are black and because no one gets the other color right (it's not supposed to be tan). The very same device got installed on the WE SCAR GBB. Mounting it on the SCAR shorty can give you problems if your aiming device isn't tall enough like my Trijicon Reflex but you can always mount it on a different rail of course if other accessories (like tactical light and vertical grip) will let you do that.

I've used a VFC AN/PEQ15 in tan color to compare the details. This one has no laser inside and the plastic is a little thinner. Please be kind and judge for yourself.

Since this is my only black battery case I won't test how strong it it is but I would rate it 400 FPS safe while I would rate the VFC one as 350 FPS safe. I might be wrong but I will try to let you guys know as soon as they break.

Too bad I cannot compare these to the real one because I am not an active military member with $1800 loose cash in the pocket. The dimensions are the same and there are only minor differences in the details. The only thing I can mention is the BETA Project box uses thumb screws on the front and back while the VFC one came with allen screws. But I know that I can get two thumb screws for less than a dollar so it's not a significant difference.

You can't go wrong with your money if you ask me and the BETA PEQ15 is a highly functional battery box. Just don't forget to buy the battery to go with it, Airsoft Buddy also has the battery box and battery combo.
