Spreading around in social media and airsoft groups is an upcoming film project called “Okami”. A project by Sam Seeley, who is a director, writer and former Royal Marine, “Okami” involves ex-servicemen as well as airsoft players such as our good friend Femme Fatale Airsoft and FPSMagda.

The film project, which revolves around a former counter terrorism firearms office called Ajani, is now on Kickstarter raising the initial funds in order to get the project going. As the campaign page explains:

Okami is a drama like no else. We follow Ajani, a former counter terrorism firearms officer. After a transfer to an undercover met police unit, AJ must use his skills as agent handler to deliver results, all whilst remaining in his perception of the fine line of the law. But how do you act with integrity, when that line isn't quite as straight as it once was? When the line is contoured and bent by the same governments and organisations tasked to ensure that line remains linear.

Moments after an extremely traumatic incident; the death of one his undercover operatives. We track Ajani's decline into darkness, as has he tries to understand the world and people around him.

In this world of elevated corruption, AJ has to realise in his darkest of moments, in order to do any good, he must become the worst version of himself; submit to the shadow. Guided by the dark spirit, Ajani discovers more than the path of righteousness, but a legacy. A legacy of which he is obligated to fulfil; a suit of armour, a katana, a destiny.

You’ll notice the Japanese reference as “Okami” means a “"great god" or "great spirit" (Ōkami) and the project page says it is initially inspired by Yasuke, the African who arrived in Japan with the Portuguese during the Nanban Trade in the 16th Century and later on became a retainer and weapon-bearer to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga, regarded as the first “Unifier" of Japan.  

Yasuke is also a character in video games, anime series and an upcoming film.

The “Okami” cast will be trained by former British Special Forces and British Royal Marine Commandos and Femme Fatale Airsoft and FPSMagda are producers as well as actors in the film.

As in any serious film project, “Okami” will require resources for production and rather go through the usual route of third-party financing, Seeley has resorted to crowdfunding to be true the vision as well as have the backers be involved in the process of making the film.

The Kickstarter funding goal is £30,000 with 29 days to go. If you like the project, help reach its funding goal by pledging an amount to it as well as spread the news around. Your name will be in the credits and you want to pledge more, then become an Associate Producer and play a small role by being an extra in the film.

This project will only be funded once the funding goal is reached on 9 December.
