Luca of Sabre Airsoft features a rare and historic piece of airsoft equipment: an Asahi M60. Believed to predate modern AEGs and released around 1990, this specific model stands out as one of the earliest High-Pressure Air (HPA) systems. It features a unique ball valve system where the BB rests against an O-ring, and air pressure builds until it propels the BB forward. Interestingly, this short-barrel version lacks a hop-up system, a feature that may not have even existed at the time, although a later, longer-barrel version did include a highly regarded one. The M60 also boasts a noticeable recoil due to its reciprocating barrel, which creates an air seal before firing, and a uniquely tapered barrel that widens at the start and narrows towards the end.
The Asahi M60 operates with a gravity-fed hopper, similar to a paintball gun, allowing users to load 25-30 BBs per pull of the charging handle. Despite its only function being a safety, its mechanism means that dry-firing without ammo only sends air down the barrel, a characteristic that once led a previous seller to mistakenly believe it was broken. The current owner, however, acquired this historical piece for a mere £25, a fraction of its actual worth, which exceeds £1,000. Luca emphasizes the extreme rarity of this airsoft gun, noting that replacement parts are virtually impossible to find, which is why he refrains from disassembling it.
