Molcom checks out the 40MAX Whirligig 3 which is an updated airsoft grenade that swaps the old twist-to-activate mechanism for a more straightforward push-button system. This version holds 120 BBs, which are loaded through a hole at the bottom alongside the gas intake valve. It is designed to spray its contents in all directions upon impact, provided it is dropped from a height that actually triggers the mechanism—something the reviewer found out the hard way during a low-ceiling indoor test.
To prove the device works, Molcom decided to play the role of both the thrower and the target. After a successful initial toss that filled the room with plastic pellets, he bravely (or perhaps questionably) stood in the line of fire to gauge the impact. The results were clear: it definitely works, it definitely spreads BBs effectively, and it definitely causes the person being hit to reconsider their life choices through a series of surprised yelps.
In a real field setting, the grenade managed to take out multiple opponents at once, demonstrating its utility in clearing rooms. While the device is built to withstand the rigors of a game, the Molcom’s main concern seemed to be whether his action camera survived the onslaught. If you are looking for a way to make your friends jump while technically following the rules of airsoft, this little spinning gadget seems to do the trick.
