As often stressed maintenance of airsoft guns is necessary to prevent performance issues like semi-auto locking and inconsistent shot accuracy. In this video by K.K. Cinematic Airsoft, a high-use rifle is inspected after the owner reported frequent jamming and a significant drop in muzzle velocity. The initial testing shows the velocity is much lower than the standard for its model, leading to a complete disassembly to identify internal problems.
The inspection reveals several physical issues, including a loose outer barrel and a deformed hop-up bucking. Inside the gearbox, the cylinder is contaminated with dirt and old grease, which creates friction and reduces air compression efficiency. Furthermore, the trigger switch contacts are heavily charred from electrical sparking, a common result of using high-voltage batteries without protection.
To restore the rifle, the internal components are cleaned and re-greased, and the damaged hop-up bucking and piston are replaced. The technician also installs a device to protect the trigger contacts from future electrical wear and stabilizes the barrel to improve accuracy. Final tests show that the muzzle velocity has returned to its expected range and the firing issues are resolved, demonstrating the impact of periodic servicing.
