Fulcrum: Why AEPs Are Great

Fulcrum features Automatic electric pistols (AEPs) which often get a bad reputation in the airsoft community, but they offer several practical advantages over their gas-powered counterparts. Unlike gas pistols, which can be finicky in cold weather or prone to leaks, electric models are dependable in diverse conditions. They are also easier on the wallet, with magazines that cost significantly less than gas versions and internal systems that require less maintenance since there are no seals or valves to worry about.

While it is true that these electric options generally have a lower muzzle velocity and shorter range, this is less of a concern for a secondary weapon intended for close-quarters encounters. The compact internal gearboxes are impressive feats of engineering, even if they cannot match the raw power of a gas-filled magazine. When used for clearing rooms or as a backup for a long-range primary, the power difference becomes a minor detail compared to the benefit of having a reliable tool that works every time you pull the trigger.

One of the features of a model like the VZ61 Scorpion is its ability to provide consistent full-auto fire without the "cool-down" effect that plagues gas guns. This makes it a viable tool for snipers who need a high volume of fire to escape tight spots. Additionally, because the magazines do not need to house a bulky gas reservoir, they can hold more ammunition in a smaller space. While they lack the realistic recoil and mechanical slide movement that many players enjoy, the ability to effectively clear a building full of opponents usually outweighs the desire for a vibrating hand.
