It can be used as additional insulating layer, as a temporary rain shield or simply be carried as a windshirt. The pull-cord in the seam and the flexible cuffs help to reduce the so-called 'Windchill Factor'. In emergencies the shirt can be stuffed with dry grass and a provisional insulation will be formed. In the summer it offers protection from short showers, without laying an extra weight on the users shoulders.

A windshirt should not be missing in any SERE kit! It can be washed at normal temeratures, but under no circumstance it should be ironed!"
