The Hakkotsu Makers

Brahma

Hakkotsu is a Japanese word for skeleton, a reference to death. Paradoxically however, P.R.T.D.’s use of “hakkotsu” as a symbol is to remind us of the terrible consequences in using lethal weaponry, which, more often than not, leads to death. Hence, the company has taken it upon itself to promote nonlethal weapons for use in law enforcement.

Pioneer Rich Technology Development Ltd or P.R.T.D. was established in 2003 by Mr. Lee, who is also the man behind Real Action Markers (RAM)—its products have been around for more than 15 years. Mr. Lee’s solid experience in airsoft and paintball gives P.R.T.D. the edge in developing new guns, and his extensive relations with airsoft game clubs, as well as law enforcement offices contributed to the company’s speedy rise in the global business scene.

Popular Airsoft: Good day Derek. Can you tell us who some of your clients are? If you don’t mind.

Derek Leung of P.R.T.D.: Good day to you. Well, most of our clients come from the law enforcement and private security sector. Recently, we have the airsoft community in our clients’ list.

What are your main product lines? Kindly give us a brief description of each.

At this moment, our main product is the Hakkotsu Thunder B Sound Grenade. We also offer protective gears for paintball players, such as masks and eyewears.

What is your best-selling product line?

The Thunder B debuted in October 2008. In that short span of time, we have sold more than 1,000 units in the United Kingdom already. I believe you have already seen one in the UK market.

What is the company’s research and development (R&D) focus in the next 12 months?

Our R&D is currently focusing on developing an anti-tank rocket launcher within the next 12 months. This product is positioned as a law enforcement training weapon, as well as for airsoft.

How long does it take for the company to come out with new models? What processes are involved?

We normally spend one to two months doing the conceptual design; another one to two months on R&D; and about a month to do quality assurance testing. A good two months is spent on marketing and promotions. That’s roughly six month all in all, before we release a new product.

What are your major export markets?

Our major markets are the United States, Germany, Taiwan and Indonesia.

I understand your company has branched out into airsoft. What drive you to explore the airsoft market?

The airsoft market is big and full of potential. However, with non-lethal weapons slowly gaining ground worldwide, our efforts will center on meeting the emerging demand for non-lethal weapons, as well as personnel training weapons. That is why we are working closely with Real Action Marker, in order for us to provide the best products and services to our clients.

Lastly, could you tell us a little more about the people behind the company? Are they into airsoft also?

Our staffs work closely with local paintball organizations and law enforcement officers. We have regular meeting fortnightly to exchange idea and share out experiences, for more information of our partnership in Hong Kong, please visit www.ttwsc.com.hk.
