What the real steel shooters are about to enjoy, airsofters have already enjoyed using 12 years ago. Magpul and ZEV Technologies have teamed up to produce the FDP-9/FDC-9 which have the same roots as the PTS Folding Pocket Gun (FPG) for airsoft, which is the Magpul FMG-9 concept gun revealed in 2008. But the Magpul/ZEV Technologies FDP-9/FDC-9 won’t be alone in this folding gun segment of the firearms market.

B&T got also its plans and have revealed on the B&T USA Instagram page, their own folding gun concept --- the B&T BWC-9.

The B&T BWC-9 is quite close to the FDP-9/FDC-9 at first glance as they are look like innocent toolboxes. But once unfolded there a big difference will be quickly noticed, the B&T BWC-9 has angled stock compared to the more straight-line stock designs for the FDP-9/FDC-9. The B&T BWC-9 is a chassis that uses the Sig P320 Slide and Trigger Group and we assume for the offering from Magpul/ZEV Technologies will be using the a more Glock-like operation given ZEV Technologies development of Glock upgrades and that the Magpul FMG-9 design has got the Glock pistol in mind which the airsoft Magpul PTS FPG uses.

The carry handle on the FDP-9/FDC-9 is removable with the top rail able to take in optics. The B&T BWC-9’s carry handle looks fixed in the photos but the handle got cuts at the portion where the handle meets the top receiver and the top has a flat rail so one can mount optics so one can see through the carry handle during target acquisition. The photo shows an Aimpoint ACRO P-1 red dot sight mounted on the BWC-9.

Also, there is no trigger guard visible on the BWC-9.

According to the B&T USA Instagram account, it is going to be a limited run and will be available in the latter part of 2022. This means that B&T will beat the Magpul/ZEV Technologies FDP-9/FDC-9 to market as it the release is planned in 2023.

Hopefully ASG gets to work on an airsoft version as it has the B&T licence for the airsoft market. But that’s up to ASG, we just need to wish that they will take an interest in making one.
