Airsoft and Gun Owners up in "Arms" in the Philippines

Gungho Cowboy

“AN insecure government is afraid of an armed citizenry.” This is the battle cry of licenced gun owners in the Philippines who are reeling from a proposed law in the Philippine Congress which will limit further the ownership of guns. Included here is that even airsoft guns, in whatever form are to be classified as real firearms. Even posession of just parts of a firearm is a non-bailable offense, and airsoft gun owners use some parts of a real steel firearm such as external parts in their own airsoft guns.

Airsoft groups in the country, which are rapidly growing, owing to the popularity of airsoft in recent years, are now joining to protest in rallies nationwide. Representatives of Popular Airsoft, through its Manila-based Asia Bureau, will be attending Committee Hearings of Congress to state their opposition and recommend changes to wordings in the proposed bill (House Bill 6658, sponsored by Rep. Romualdo).

One thing that really makes all real steel gun and airsoft gun owners riled up is a provision is a provision for life imprisonment for "illegal possession or manufacture of of firearms or light weapons." Which means if this bill is passed and signed into law by the Philippine president, airsoft gun owners who customise their airsoft guns will be liable to life imprisonment.
