Springfield Armory has never been shy about its affection for the 1911 platform. After more than a century, John Browning's enduring design continues to find new admirers, new configurations, and as of this latest announcement, new optics ready handguns. Building on the Aimpoint COA-equipped Echelon 9mm, Springfield is now expanding the program to include three new factory-milled Aimpoint COA-equipped pistols: the 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25" in 9mm, and two .45 ACP entries — the 5" 1911 TRP and the 5" 1911 Operator. If you've been waiting for a factory-direct 1911 with a closed-emitter red dot already bolted on, your wait is officially over.

Central to the whole arrangement is the Aimpoint COA optic, which rides on Springfield's proprietary A-CUT interface. The mounting solution integrates directly into the pistol's slide via a full-length dovetail secured by a front hook and rear wedge. That wedge-locking mechanism does some meaningful engineering work: it redirects lateral forces into the dovetail itself rather than dumping all the stress onto the screws. The practical upshot is reduced wear on mounting interfaces and a zero that stays put under demanding use. The mount also sits low enough to allow co-witnessing with the pistol's iron sights, so you're not giving anything up if the dot disappears at an inconvenient moment.

The Aimpoint COA itself is worth a closer look. Housed in 7075-T6 aluminum, this is a closed-emitter optic, which means the emitter and the lens are fully enclosed, offering real protection against rain, snow, dust, and submersion down to 25 meters. The dot is a 3.5 MOA red dot, paired with a 15x15mm lens, and the optic runs for more than five years on a single CR2032 battery. It offers four night vision-compatible brightness settings and eight daylight settings, and the whole thing weighs just 1.7 ounces. That's a serious optic in a small package, and it carries a standalone MSRP of $617.

Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25" COA

The first of the three new pistols is the 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25" COA, chambered in 9mm and priced at $1,955. The Prodigy takes the classic 1911 silhouette and reorganizes it around a double-stack magazine, which is housed in a polymer grip module mounted to a forged steel frame. The result is a capacity of 18+1 rounds with either of the two included magazines. For shooters who want 1911 ergonomics and handling but don't want to be counting rounds at the nine-round mark, the Prodigy has been making a reasonable case for itself since its introduction.

Springfield 1911 TRP COA in .45 ACP 

Next up is the 1911 TRP COA in .45 ACP, the premium option of the three at $2,424. The TRP or Tactical Response Pistol, features a forged slide and frame that are hand-selected for fit, which is a level of individual attention that tends to show up in how the pistol feels and functions. It's finished in black Cerakote, comes with an accessory rail for lights and other add-ons, and features 20 lines-per-inch (LPI) checkering for a secure grip in any condition. Two eight-round magazines are included, and the slide gets top serrations to cut glare and help with sight alignment. This is a serious working pistol that takes itself seriously, but at $2,424, it probably knows it.

Springfield 1911 Operator COA in .45 ACP

Rounding out the trio is the 1911 Operator COA in .45 ACP, the most accessible of the three at $1,623. Don't let the lower price suggest any corners were cut on the feature list. The Operator ships with G10 grips, an ambidextrous safety, forward cocking serrations, and two eight-round magazines fitted with bumper pads. It's a duty-focused pistol built around the idea that reliability and practicality matter more than prestige, which tends to be exactly what working shooters are after.

The value math on all three of these packages is worth doing out loud. Given that the Aimpoint COA optic alone carries a $617 MSRP, picking up any of these three pistols with the optic already included results in savings of close to $200 compared to purchasing the components separately. That's before accounting for the fact that the A-CUT mounting interface is already machined into the slide, which means no gunsmithing appointments and no compatibility guesswork. The bundle approach won't suit everyone, but for anyone who was already planning to mount an Aimpoint COA on a 1911 or Prodigy, the math is fairly friendly.
