The Battle Hawk: When A Combat Knife Is Not Enough

Gungho Cowboy

I have to admit that I have a hidden fascination about Tomahawks, those sleek axe-like multipurpose tool that native American Indians introduced into American culture. Whilst they are really useful tools, it's considered to be the most badass battle tool. Just the mere sight of it would make one think twice before making a move.

The tomahawk has gone through evolution in the United States, and combat techniques have been developed to bring it to full use in the battlefield. I know that survival knives are also famous tools but for me the tomahawk is the tool that I would have in my loadout as my final weapon when I run out of ammo or when my weapon jams.

The latest incarnation of the tomahawk is the GG&G Battle Hawk, which many consider to be the most badass version nowadays. According to the company, the purpose of the Battle Hawk is combat:

The GG&G BATTLE HAWK Tactical Tomahawk is an extreme use combat tool. In fact the original plant manufacturing designation code was CUT (COMBAT UTILITY TOOL). As can be seen by the overall geometry and aggressive multiple cutting edge head design, it is meant for aggressive use, very aggressive use. In addition to the head, the three inch Tanto shaped spike will definitely get the job done. The double contour of the handle and the fine weave G10KG Micarta scales, provide a positive and solid long and short grip for the user.

Apart from its combat utility, it can be used for smashing windows, prying open door, chopping tools, or can also be used as a temporary hook, and thus, for rescue purposes, the Battle Hawk can extremely do well especially that's treated and hardened to Rc 56-58 in the hardness scale. The Tanto shaped spike will penetrate helmets when hit at the right angle, and can also be used for scaling heights when need be.

The GG&G Battle Hawk costs US$259.95 but comes with an instructional DVD from the Warrior School so you can have an understanding in the combat uses of the Battle Hawk and other methods that be useful in the field. There are lethal and non-lethal combat techiques which surprised me as I usually assume that a tomahawk can be used for giving that quick blow of death in combat. Also included in the combat techniques is how to use it against other bladed weapons such as the knife or bayonet.

Too bad this would be a dangerous loadout to bring the airsoft skirmish field, but I would love to have a dummy version on this to bring along. There are already dummy knives and dummy bayonets that can mounted on bayonet lugs of airsoft rifles, so having a dummy Battle Hawk would make you look cool. Though I wonder of the rules for "knife kills" in airsoft games would apply to it.
