An Airsoft Angel from Taiwan

Dom

Guns are associated with boys most of the time but there are the exceptions. I find it interesting to meet girls who like to fool around with guns and not only because I am a guy who loves chicks with guns. Anny puts me one step closer to understand what (airsoft) women want. In this interview Anny explains how it takes to play airsoft as a woman, and shows us a basic understanding of playing airsoft in Taiwan.

Popular Airsoft: Please do introduce yourself to our readers, and can  you kindly tell us who you are when you’re not on the airsoft field.

Anny: My name is Anny Wu and I’m a normal girl who works for a mobile phone company on a regular nine to five job.

When did you first play airsoft? What was the first gun you owned?

A very good friend of mine took me to my first war game. I even remember the exact date which was the 18th of November 2007. It was easy for me to fall in love with this sport. Soon after the first game I got my first AEG and that was a China made M4 carbine. With the help of my friends we upgraded it to match other guns on the field and I am using it ever since.

We don’t know too much about Taiwan regulations about airsoft. Are people free to play the sport in the whole country or airsoft is only allowed on certain fields? Are there any FPS limit in Taiwan?

In Taiwan airsoft guns are totally free to buy, own, upgrade or do whatever your budget will let you do.

The limit by the law is 20j/cm2 that’s about 780 fps with 0.2bb but this doesn’t mean we are using extremely high powered guns. Usually rules vary with each event and players know in advance what to expect.

There are no places where we can legally play but there are places where we allowed to play. Urban sites are harder to find because our cities are very crowded so most of our war games are held in our forests or abandoned military installations.

Usually girls choose something else other than airsoft like hiking or shopping for example. Why did you pick airsoft as a hobby?

I love different kinds of sports, but war games are more exciting than anything else. With airsoft you not only rely on yourself and you are nothing without excellent teamwork. Strangely or not I am passionate about guns and this passion comes from the bottom of my heart.

Are the men often surprised when they see you on the field or when you hit them? Do you get lot of help from guys or they don’t like the idea of you shooting at them?

Girls are always welcome on the field although some guys simply don’t believe that I am serious about the sport. It happens that guys just don’t shoot at me, or they are trying to avoid me from the beginning but I always tell them to treat me like a warrior who can hit them just like anyone else. Airsoft is all about honesty so there is no place for pity, if you think you can hit me then just do it because I will do the same no matter the gender.

Are you a member of ay team? Or you’re the only girl in the team?

We have a team called Angel Union and you can say that I am the team leader. Traveling from point A to B in Taiwan is quick and easy and this helped ladies to join us not only from Taipei but from other parts of the capital which makes us diverse and versatile.

What is your role in your team? Do you prefer close quarter fights in buildings or you rather play airsoft in the woods? Or would you rather play airsoft in the forest?

Each game mode will give you a different experience. While CQB is quick, MILSIM games are slower but require a whole different skill set. I cannot decide which one I love better and now I love them both.

Can you work on your own AEG or you leave the tuning work for someone else?

I can perform the basic and preventive maintenance on my AEG and I understand what makes them work but I always look for professional help (usually an airsoft shop) if I run into difficult issues. I need more experience to confidently upgrade guns so now I just watch how the masters work and trying to learn as much as I can.

What is your current gun and what FPS is set to?

With my current lovely ACM M4, I am using 0.20 BBs at close to 400FPS velocity and around 25 BBs per second but I have other guns set to different velocities and rates of fire. It's always the task that tells me which one to grab before I leave home for a game. They are all well-maintained and I know that that’s the most important thing if you don’t want to let your team down.

What are your favorite brands?

I love quality guns and there are so many of those in Taiwan, if I have to name one then my pick is VFC’s PDW but after holding and using this SRC SR5 I might change my mind about that.

Well, thanks for your time Anny!!!
