Springfield Armory Launches The XD(M)-10 Pistol That Uses The 10mm Round

Logan

Last week, Springfield Armory unveiled the XD(M) 4.5” Match OSP Pistol that comes with standard and threaded barrels.  This week, they add another member to the XD(M) , a more powerful XD(M)-10, a new pistol that uses the 10mm round.

While the 10mm sounds like a very young round, in a way, it is as it was designed and produced since 1983 when it was initially made for the Bren Ten, a precursor to the CZ 75 pistol. The Bren Ten was made popular by the Miami Vice TV series in the 1980s in which it was a signature weapon of Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) during the first season of the series.

With the XD(M) 10mm, Springfield Armory brings a powerful and accurate pistol that the company claims to be even more durable. In a firing test that with each round fired documented on video, it fired 10,000 rounds of Federal Premium Hydra-Shok 10mm ammunition without any failures.

“Our customers have been very vocal about their excitement at the prospect of an XD(M) chambered in 10mm,” said Springfield Armory President Steve McKelvain in a press release.  “We are thrilled to now offer them exactly what many of them have been asking for: the power and velocity of the 10mm round delivered in the reliability of the XD(M) platform, proven through a 10,000 round torture test documented on video.”

Just like the rest of the XD(M) models, the 10mm also features a polymer frame, three interchangeable backstraps, accessory rail, and an ergonomic grip. Two versions are available:  a 4.5" or 5.25" barrel, which are well-balanced when combined with the full-size grip frame for maximum controllability and comfort while shooting.

According to the company, the 4.5" model has a low-profile combat rear sight that is paired with a fiber optic front sight; and the 5.25" version features a fully adjustable target rear sight with a fiber optic front. As for the magazine, it holds 15 rounds giving the shooter a total of 15+1 rounds ready to be fired.

The slide is finished in Melonite just like the barrel, which is hammer-forged. It has forward and rear cocking serrations, with the magazine release being ambidextrous. As for the safety features, it has a loaded chamber indicator, grip safety, and a strike status indicator.

Both models are now available for purchase. Customers in the U.S. who purchase any XD model from the Springfield Armory lineup qualify to receive three additional magazines and a Springfield Armory range bag. They will also also have an exclusive offer to upgrade their Gear Up package to include a Surefire 6PX Flashlight, Kershaw Knife and Carabiner for only US$99. This offer is good up to December 21, 2018.
