That's a looooong rifle that Mach Sakai is holding. The Maruzen Nausicaä Long Gun is based on the rifle used by Nausicaä, the 16-year-old princess of the Valley of the Wind which is a 1984 Japanese anime film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is based on his Manga series that was published in 1982.
