Mossberg 990 Aftershock

The newly introduced Mossberg 990 AfterShock is a semi-automatic shotgun, designed to fuse a compact profile with formidable tactical capabilities. This innovative firearm caters to a diverse spectrum of applications, ranging from the critical demands of home defence to the engaging pursuits of recreational shooting.

Recognizing the varied preferences and operational requirements of its user base, the 990 AfterShock is offered in two distinct barrel lengths: a manoeuvrable 14.75-inch configuration and a more traditional 18.5-inch variant. Both lengths are chambered for the potent 12-gauge shotshell, accommodating rounds up to 3 inches in length, and boast a practical 5+1 round capacity, striking a balance between firepower and manageability.

Mossberg 990 AfterShock features advanced gas system that is instrumental in ensuring consistent and dependable cycling of rounds. Furthermore, the gas system plays a significant role in mitigating felt recoil, which is particularly noteworthy given the shotgun's compact dimensions. This reduction in recoil contributes to enhanced shooter comfort and improved control during rapid follow-up shots, ultimately enhancing overall shooting performance and accuracy.

Internally, the 990 AfterShock shows durability and reliable operation under demanding conditions. Key components, including the gas piston, magazine tube, hammer, and sear, are treated with a nickel boron coating. This specialized finish provides an exceptional level of resistance to corrosion and wear, considerably extending the lifespan and operational consistency of these critical parts. This focus on robust internal components translates to a shotgun that not only performs smoothly but also maintains its reliability over extended periods of use and exposure to various environmental factors.

The inclusion of the distinctive AfterShock grip specifically shaped to conform to the shooter's hand, effectively minimises the perception of recoil and providing a secure and comfortable interface. The unique contours of the grip ensure a firm hold, even during rapid-fire sequences, contributing to enhanced stability and accuracy. Complementing the grip is a strapped forend, a safety-conscious feature that keeps the shooter's lead hand securely positioned and away from the muzzle, thereby mitigating the risk of accidental injury.

Recognizing the modern shooter's desire for customisation and adaptability, the 990 AfterShock incorporates several features that facilitate the attachment of aftermarket accessories. Alson included is the magazine tube extension, which is equipped with M-LOK-compatible slots. This widely adopted modular locking interface allows users to quickly and securely mount a variety of tactical accessories, such as weapon lights, vertical grips, and sling mounts, tailoring the shotgun to their specific needs and preferences. Furthermore, the availability of the Lasersaddle option, which seamlessly integrates a Crimson Trace laser sight, provides an added layer of functionality for enhanced target acquisition. This integrated laser sight offers adjustability for both windage and elevation, ensuring precise zeroing, and features multiple activation points for intuitive and convenient operation.

The 990 AfterShock also has a suite of user-friendly controls designed to enhance the overall shooting experience, particularly under pressure. These controls include an oversized safety selector, easing quick and positive engagement and disengagement, even with gloved hands. A knurled charging handle provides a secure and tactile surface for reliable manipulation of the bolt. The bolt release is designed for easy access and operation by both left- and right-handed shooters. Moreover, the loading port has been enlarged and bevelled to streamline the reloading process, while the inclusion of an anodized bright orange follower and an elongated, pinch-free elevator further enhances the efficiency and ease of reloading, minimizing potential snags or discomfort.

The streamlined forend contributes to the shotgun's overall compact dimensions, enhancing its manoeuvrability in confined spaces, a critical attribute for home defence and tactical applications. Despite its reduced size, the 990 AfterShock is constructed to withstand the rigors of demanding use.

The Mossberg 990 AfterShock is positioned within the tactical shotgun market with competitive pricing that reflects its advanced features and high-quality construction. The base models are offered with a starting price of $1,120, while the variant equipped with the integrated Crimson Trace Lasersaddle is priced at $1,302.
