IWI just bagged another contract from the Israel Defense Forces (IWI) worth 10.5 million NIS (around US$2.9 million) to supply thousands of units of the X95 bullpup firearm to the IDF. The IDF announced the contract at their website on 24 June 2023 with IWI issuing a press release the next day. The amount covers 2,800 units of the X95.

The X95, also known as the Micro Tavor, is a firearm that combines the capabilities of an assault rifle, carbine, and sub-machine gun (SMG) into one versatile weapon. The firearms tech developed by IWI technology allows for quick and easy conversion between three different calibers: 5.56mmx45mm, 9mmx19mm, and 5.45mmx39mm. This level of adaptability makes it possible to use the same weapon platform in a wide range of scenarios, from close-quarters urban combat to open field engagements.

With one of the key advantages of the X95 is its compatibility with multiple ammunition calibers this not only makes it versatile but also saves time and resources in terms of training and spare parts, resulting in a significantly lower total cost of ownership (TCO). The ability to quickly switch between calibers also means that soldiers and law enforcement officers can adapt to changing situations on the fly, making them more effective in the field.

IWI designed the X95 to meet the extreme demands of modern combat environments, both urban and open. It is manufactured exclusively for military, police, special forces, and law enforcement agencies, providing them with a reliable and effective tool to combat terror threats and engage in open area combat. The weapon is constructed from high-strength impact-modified polymer, making it both sturdy and lightweight.

The development of the X95 was a collaborative effort between its manufacturer and the elite units of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Every aspect of its design and technology was carefully considered to meet the needs of these highly trained soldiers. As a result, the X95 is now the standard assault rifle used by the IDF.

It has been combat-proven by military and police forces around the world and complies with strict NATO standards for small arms, including environmental standards proving its reliability.

A licensed version of the IWI X95 is sold by Umarex. Press release from IWI below:

Israel Ministry of Defense is acquiring thousands of IWI-made assault rifles for IDF infantry brigades.

IWI – Israel Weapon Industries – a member of the SK Group (founded by Mr. Samy Katsav), and a global leader in the production of combat-proven small arms for military, police, law enforcement agencies, and governmental entities around the world, will supply additional thousands of Micro-TAVOR (X95) assault rifles for IDF infantry brigades under a new contract.

The contract was signed with the Israel Ministry of Defense’s Department of Production and Procurement – Ground Weapons Division.

The Micro-TAVOR rifle has been in IDF active duty and reserves service since 2006. Its bullpup configuration platform creates an ergonomic and short firearm with a long barrel, giving it superior ballistics compared to other platforms.

The current order is for the 5.56x45mm caliber Micro-TAVOR with a 380mm and 419mm – barrel length. The firearm is equipped with M-1913 picatinny rails enabling the mounting of essential accessories such as sights, lights, and visual and IR illuminators necessary for modern warfare.

This order joins previous IWI contracts for the IDF, such as the Negev LMG (light machine gun) and the 40mm grenade launcher that can be mounted on to the Micro-TAVOR rifle.

Ronen Hamudot, Executive VP Marketing and Sales of the SK Group said: “We are proud of the IDF’s decision to, once again, choose the small arms advanced solutions manufactured by IWI. This is a fruitful cooperation between the company and the IDF that has been in place for many years, and which reflects the Ministry of Defense’s confidence in SK Group’s solutions in the light weapons sector. The Micro- TAVOR advanced design and technology was developed in collaboration with the elite units of Israel Defense Forces (IDF). During its development every technological and ergonomic aspect was taken into consideration.  We are proud to say that today it is the standard IDF assault rifle”.
