Drones are getting sexier these days as they are now becoming indispensable for everyday use, be it for private, commercial and military use. With the War In Ukraine giving us a lot of imagery of the battlefield for media, reconnaissance and intelligence purposes, some of us in airsoft want to get more into drones and looking at how to use them well for airsoft and milsim games apart from just taking videos of the action below.
GoPro still wants a piece of the drone market, even if they have stopped production of their first drone offering, the Karma, which was a failure that led to the company quitting the drone market in 2018. But they have not totally forgotten the market and in fact want to dip their toes again with the announcement of the GoPro HERO10 Black Bones that has been designed to be used for FPV and “Cinewhoop” drones.
As its name indicates, the HERO10 Black Bones is a bare bones version of the GoPro HERO10 Black action camera, which is the latest action camera from the company. It has been stripped to lessen the weight, such as removing both the LCD screens found in front and in the rear. It maintains the HyperSmooth 4.0 feature which allows it to be mounted without any gimbal and offers a maximum of 5.3K video.
It has a well-ventilated, semi-durable enclosure to keep the camera cool for long duration flights and it has a replaceable lens clover to protect the lense in case of the drone crashes.
At 54 grams, it is the lightest GoPro action camera which makes it an attractive camera to be mounted on drones. It does not have its own batteries and rather depends on the 2S-6S or 5-27V batteries of FPV drones as power source. Video resolution options are at 5.3K at 60fps, 4K 120 fps and 2.7K at 240 fps in 16:9 mode.
For control it can use Quik App, GoPro Labs QR Codes, GoPro's The Remote or even the FPF drone's OWB transmitter. When purchased, it also comes with the ReelSteady Stabilization license and Emmy Award-Winning stabilization feature.
The GoPo HERO10 Black Bones is now available for US$549.98 but you can also get it for US$399.98 if taken with a 1-year GoPro subscription that includes unlimited cloud backup + auto uploads, unlimited use of the Quik app, up to 50% off at GoPro.com, and no-questions-asked camera replacement.
You also need to get the FPV drone separately to use with it.
