Crime Involving Airsoft Replicas on the Rise in Delaware?

Gungho Cowboy

I came across this news on airsoft at Technorati, a report from USA Today in Delaware that there are crimes committed involving airsoft toys are on the rise with already two fatalities this year. Two men were shot when they pointed the replicas at State troopers. Though these are not surprising as criminal elements will resort to anything to commit a crime, and airsoft is just one tool. Nevertheless, these incidents bring about negative image for airsoft, something must be done about this before proposals to totally ban airsoft as a measure is played on the minds of local residents.

"WILMINGTON, Del. — From the outside, the Airsoft M-4 carbine is nearly indistinguishable from the weapon used by troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The charging handle functions like the original. It's got the right heft, balance and pointability. The collapsible stock, selector switch and magazine release operate just like those on the real weapon.

Its accessory rails accept flashlights, lasers and electronic sights.

The Delaware State Police have noticed a worrisome increase in real crimes involving the toy lookalike weapons.

It's easy see why."
