MadDog's Review of the Bell M92 Full Metal GBB

MadDog

So my KJW Glock 32 died on me the last time I used it in CQB… my heart bled and I felt like I lost an arm…huhuhu. Since then, I have yearned for something to take its place…. Something compact, full metal, and with a proper kick. But, being an ACM addict like I am I just can’t be interested in expensive high end ones anymore. So, as usual, I searched the web pages of RSOV and found this: the Bell M92 full metal GBB pistol    I believe this is Bell’s version of the Beretta M92 9mm pistol. For Wikipedia reference click on here.

This particular item has mixed reviews, in RSOV and in other forums I tend to hang around but I am fully aware that in the world of cheapsofting getting a lemon is one of the realities we have to accept. In short, I went for it and placed my order.

After almost a month of waiting (yeah, 4 weeks of anticipation--- it could make you sick!), it has finally arrived. And so here it is: my review of the Bell M92 full metal GBB pistol.

The package:

The box was a simple corrugated paper box with a sticker on its flap that shows a bit of info about the gun. Inside is a cut out foam which housed the gun in transport. And a packet of o-rings and something that looks like a hop-up rubber. I guess it’s fair to say that the manufacturer has just provided me replacement parts for this gun’s most common problems that I might encounter in the future. Free BB’s? There’s none--- not that I’d really bother with it. It also has an owner’s manual which I find really informative. It’s got lots of pics: disassembly and assembly guide, and an exploded diagram. It’s written in "chin-glish" but fairly understandable if you ask me.

The gun:

The first words that came out of my mouth when I saw this pistol as I opened the box was Sh*t! it’s beautiful. Yeah, two- almost contradicting terms… here are the possible reasons why: it is beautiful because it has a NICE WEIGHT, it has a rail (perfect for CQB flashlights), it is painted flat black but I think the paint will easily chip off. There is no ‘real steal’ trade markings as you would expect in an ACM- there is however Bell’s trade mark on its plastic grip covers. Aside from that, you can not mistake this for ABS as this baby has FULL METAL feel all over it- you know, “cold and heavy”. I have not seen or held the real steel M92 but I must say, this could pass as the real deal in a quick glance. The safety switch is ambidextrous but it doesn’t have a good ‘click’- if you know what I mean and it lacks the red dot that should tell the user that the gun is in ‘fire’ mode. The front and rear sights are painted black- I would want white or green dots there, preferably luminous.

So I immediately test fired it using .20’s and Ultrair Power Gas. As I pulled the slide to put one BB into the chamber, I noticed that it not as smooth as I expect it to be. Perhaps, some sanding and smoothing will help. Now that the hammer is pulled back I can see a shiny metal part that looks like a bloody galvanized iron- a turn off. With its slide pulled, BB chambered, magazine charged with gas--- its shootin’ time! Now, this is where the Sh*t word comes in the picture. It did not puncture even one side of the coke can! My springer JT3 shotgun is even more powerful than this. The open bolt action after the last BB is fired is not functional. WTF? I wanted a kick ass pistol not a tickler!. Arrrrghhh! Oh, man I got to do something to rectify this.

I thought this gun needs serious lubing and cleaning. So I literally made this pistol swim in silicon oil. I also cleaned its barrel and detached the slide so I can clean the inner parts better. The result? Ahhh, now I can sleep better- it now has a much smoother slide action, good cycle and the open bolt function is now working. The best part of it is: I can now punch a hole on one side of the coke can. i guess that's good enough to start with.

The score(subject to change after I skirmish this gun):

Appearance: I am okay with no trade markings but I wanted the white dots on the sights and the red dot on the safety switch. The obvious G.I. sheet metal part still pisses me off. having griped on these little flaws I’d still give this gun 4/5 coz generally speaking,  it is indeed beautiful.
Power: you know the score, 3/5. But with a high flow valve and other tweaks I’m sure this gun will kick ass.
Durability: Full Metal nicety, feels solid, looks tough enough. 4/5
Accuracy: awaiting field testing
Practicality: GBP26.99 for a full metal gbb this gun is all worth it. Extra mags cost GBP6.99 each, it has a rail to attach what ever gear you fancy (a nice ipod with RIS attachment will do….hahaha) it bloody cheap as cheapsofting gets. the score 5/5

Would I recommend you guys to buy this gun? Yes, you know I would.

Here are some pics:

Notice the missing RED Dot on the safety switch.

Here's the shiny G.I. bit:

The sights would have been perfect had they put white dots on it... at least.

The front end:

HoooAH!
