Singaporean Charged For Airsoft Gun Posession

A 26-year old Singaporean may face at least six strokes of the cane and a jail sentence between 5 and 14 years if found guilty for posession of an airsoft gun. According to Channel News Asia, Yang Ziyi was arrested last Sunday outside a 7-Eleven store carrying a Desert Eagle airsoft pistol in violation of the Arms Offences Act on unlawful possession or carrying of firearms.

Airsoft in Singapore can only be used in certain airsoft IPSC/practical shooting clubs that got permission from the government. Shooters can only use their airsoft guns within these clubs and cannot bring them outside. There have been petitions to have this rule relaxed, but were routinely ignored. Singaporeans go to neighbouring countries such in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to be able to play airsoft skirmishes.

The suspect's bail was set at S$60,000 and his passport impounded pending trial.
