Holy Smokes! Japanese Modelgun Caps!

OptimusPrime

If there's anything eye opening this week, it's this video by Hyperdouraku of a meeting of model gun enthusiasts sponsored  by Strike and Tactical (SAT) Magazine. The video shows model gun enthusiasts bringing their Cap Guns to an MMS meeting as there are still companies in Japan making these types of modelguns. Whilst we know that Tanio Koba as one of the top innovators in airsoft, he is also at the forefront of developing modelgun caps.

You'll be amazed at the diversity of Cap guns in the video and one thing we really dig are the automatic firing Mac-10 and M93R cap guns brought by Tanio Koba, (who is considered to be the father of modelguns) which really fire a good burst and shell ejecting. We are not sure if these cap guns are from Kane Company's which usually are promoted as RealFlame or Marushin caps. Regardless of the supplier, these Cap guns look so realistic that firing them would make you think they're real firearms.  Usually, the caps' "flame" are seen at the ejection port of the cap guns rather than at muzzle area due to blocked or partially blocked barrels.

Also, you've seen in the video a birthday cake as Tanio Koba turned 77 years old recently, still going strong and making innovations in airsoft designs.

For any film or TV production company, such modelgun cap guns made by the Japanese represent ideal gun props as compared to the airsoft guns that they're presently using.  Actors fire airsoft guns and in post production, smoke, flash and shell ejection are added via computer software and sometimes they don't look realistic at all. These cap guns removes the headaches for post production and for the director to see on the spot how a gun battle scene can look like rather than imagining it post production. Besides, it's cool to see the effects of the gun smoke under those production lights.

In this case of some of the guns in the video able to fire projectiles,  these are what they call  "Hybrid Guns" which are also like airsoft guns as they're able to fire BBs. However, in this case the BBs are propelled forward by the pressure build-up in the caps just like in real bullets, rather than air pressure generated by electric gearboxes or by gas magazines/cartridges. We are not sure of the power of such Hybrid systems but if they're strong enough to be used in airsoft practical shooting or training, then they can be highly recommended for such.

The modelgun cap guns represent a level of which many airsoft players want their airsoft guns to be: able to fire BBs whilst showing some recoil, muzzle flash, and "gun smoke."  However, we are not sure if this is practical for airsoft games such as weekend skirmishes and milsim events since caps represent extra costs for airsoft players, and for the environment in terms of additional "mess" of left behind shells. But for purposes of realism such as practical shooting and force on force training, they are very much feasible. To a certain extent, they can also be used for Milsim. But then, airsoft technology hasn't yet achieved that "ultra-realistic" stage yet.

And if it does, we'll call for even stricter usage and access of such airsoft gun as such new realism will bring newer headaches for law enforcement. Whilst airsoft guns are already realistic enough that people brandishing them in public get shot, how much more if airsoft guns with realistic muzzle flashes?
